This is a two cd package in which the cd's are totally independent. The first cd is performed by the Hildegard von Bingen Choir from Como, Italy. Many of the selections are from Hildegard's music for the feast of Saint Ursula and the 11, Virgins. While I prefer the Anonymous 4 performance, this is a solid performance at a much lower cost/5(2). Hildegard's Studium divinitas contains fully eight antiphons for the celebration of Lauds on the holy virgin's feast-day. The medieval feast of Lauds is generally a series of three chanted Psalms, the canticle of the Three Youths, and a further three Psalms; each Biblical chant had its own short antiphon, proper to the feast of the day. Her rhapsodic chants inspired by the legend of St. Ursula and the Eleven Thousand Virgins are full of imagery, weaving a hypnotic web of sound. Anonymous 4, who sings with "an ethreal clarity that is absolutely captivating", are the ideal interpreters of this music. Reply
